Trent Hills
In the rolling hills of Northumberland County, east of Rice Lake, this project is defined by the simple form of a broad, gabled roof as a single gesture, split in two halves, one public and one private, by a one-storey entry breezeway.
A restrained palette on the exterior helps the building fit within the mostly agrarian surrounding landscape, while on the interior a more rich and varied palette of Douglas fir ceilings, oak millwork, limestone and marble create a warm atmospheric retreat.
Photographed in midsummer 2025, the set of images aim to emphasize the home’s connections to the landscape - views from the interior carefully frame views back to the surrounding hillside, while views from the exterior situate the building within its surroundings rather than an object imposed on the landscape.
